(USA) FiberMark, a leading producer of specialty papers and fiber-based materials for a variety of applications, has announced that it has received Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain-of-Custody certification.
Chain-of-custody (CoC) certification is an increasingly important issue in the graphic arts industry, driven by customers seeking to align their environmental philosophies with their purchasing practices. FiberMark’s CoC and Controlled Wood Certification verifies the flow of FSC-certified forest products through its supply chain and into its final products, assuring FiberMark consumers that the papers they are choosing are made from trees harvested according to strict environmental standards and forest management practices.
The majority of FiberMark’s papers are made from renewable wood fiber, and all are elemental and process chlorine free. Many of FiberMark’s cover stocks also have a high percentage of recycled and PCW content. Recently, the company unveiled a line of high quality environmentally friendly cover papers, branded Eviva™, to provide designers with even more choices for responsible design. Made from 100-percent recycled fiber, including 30-percent post-consumer waste, Eviva papers are another example of FiberMark’s dedication to environmental responsibility. FiberMark is now authorized to certify this product as “FSC Recycled” under the new FSC standards.
FiberMark’s Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain-of-Custody certification (certificate code SW-COC-003054) is in accordance with FSC standards: FSC-STD-40-007 (Version 1-0) “Sourcing Reclaimed Materials,” FSC-STD-40-004 (Version 2-0) “Chain of Custody Certification” and FSC-STD-40-005 (Version 2-0) “Company Evaluation of FSC Controlled Wood."
“With this certification, we're offering our customers the assurance of the highest environmental standards provided by a leading environmental organization," said Steve Pfistner, vice president of safety & environmental management at FiberMark. "FiberMark’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in everything we do, from manufacturing processes to environmental policies to product innovations. ”
At its Vermont headquarters, FiberMark has invested in conservation technologies and training that have enabled the company to reduce its overall consumption of energy by approximately 20% over the last five years. FiberMark also reclaims and recycles 100% of its waste water sludge to use as landfill cover.
FiberMark has also implemented a variety of green manufacturing and business processes to minimize environmental impact, from simple activities such as recycling office waste, refurbishing and/or buying used equipment and using surplus materials, to the complex reengineering of manufacturing processes to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
