(Canada) A pioneer in sustainable development, Cascades Tissue Group is encouraging Canadians to check their Environmental Facts on Cascades(R) enviro products this Earth Day to realize the importance of changing their environmentality(R).
A major sponsor of Earth Day celebrations in Canada, Cascades has a long-standing history in building its environmentality(R) and actions towards sustainable development. The proof is in the facts - the Environmental Facts.
Cascades' commitment to the environment is reflected on each package of tissues with details on what each roll of kitchen or bathroom tissue has done to help minimize its environmental impact. From 0 per cent chlorine bleaching to 80 per cent water preservation, Enviro Facts tell the story of the products' environmental benefits. Cascades Tissue Group is the first company to use informational labeling of this kind on tissue products.
"At Cascades, we're constantly looking to develop new methods to produce every day products in an environmentally-friendly fashion," says Suzanne Blanchet, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cascades Tissue Group.
"Canadians have shown that they're ready to make those small changes in their lives that can make a big difference - and Cascades is here to help. This Earth Day, we're asking Canadians to take those simple green actions and realize the impact that they can have on preserving our planet."
It takes several years for a tree to grow to maturity, but just mere seconds to flush a toilet. And with each flush goes the bathroom tissue that is killing those trees. However, it's easy for Canadians to make a difference with simple green actions. Cascades(R) enviro products are manufactured with 100 per cent recycled paper - but that's not the only thing that makes them "enviro", they are packaged in recycled and recyclable plastic. In addition, Cascades has been at the forefront of its industry but has also made advances in its manufacturing processes, resulting in the reuse of each drop of water 40 times, maximizing the use of special filters in its production process and minimizing waste from its manufacturing.
All these initiatives are the reason why Cascades(R) tissues are the only tissue in Canada to be certified as both EcoLogo(M) and processed chlorine free (PCF). The EcoLogo(M) indicates that the product was manufactured with a view to environmental protection, while the chlorine-free certification guarantees that Cascades products were manufactured via a chlorine-free bleaching process.
Some facts to think about this Earth Day:
- On average, each Canadian uses approximately 100 rolls of bathroom tissue a year, the equivalent of nearly five kilometres of unrolled toilet paper.(1)
- If each Canadian switched from regular bathroom tissue to Cascades(R) enviro 100 per cent recycled bathroom tissue for just one roll on Earth Day, 61,000 trees could be saved.(2)
- Canadians will use more than 1,900 metric tonnes of tissue products on Earth Day.(1)
- The Cascades(R) enviro line is made from various types of easily recycled everyday paper, including bills, notes, photocopies, faxes, flyers, magazines, cardboard packaging from certain food products, and others.
