(USA) The cliche "one man's trash is another man's treasure" still holds sway in Hampton Roads, where the soaring value of recycled cardboard is saving cities and counties money just by encouraging people to recycle.
That's because Virginia Peninsulas Public Service Authority, which operates garbage and recycling sites in 10 Hampton Roads municipalities, is getting $108 a ton for recycled corrugated cardboard, according to David Magnant, director of operations. That's up from the $5 a ton that the authority was getting as recently as the fall, when a fixed-rate contract with a vendor expired.
