RICHMOND, Va., USA - Pro-tex ®, a new innovative anti-counterfeiting packaging solution developed by Chesapeake Corporation (NYSE: CSK), enables consumers to verify the authenticity of a product.

Products are assigned a unique alphanumeric character identification code that can be checked against a secure database using a standard mobile phone text message. Consumers registering the code for the first time will receive confirmation from a return text message. However, if the code has already been registered or is not recorded on the database, an instant text message will alert the user.

"The Pro-tex ® system is simple to use and helps the user to verify if a product is genuine," said Carol Hammond, head of R&D for Chesapeake. "The database system also offers the manufacturer the ability to track products and build information on a product's distribution, life cycle and usage, as well as gather other valuable market data. The manufacturer can also alert the consumer to product changes via a SMS text message or send other relevant information thereby becoming a valuable marketing tool."

The Pro-tex ® system can be applied to various types of consumer product packaging including cartons, labels, leaflets and plastic containers. The unique code number assigned to each product is completely secure and generated through a closed-loop system operated by Chesapeake. The global system is multilingual and can adjust language and message content of the reply based on the incoming message. Pro-tex ® is ideal for a wide range of market applications including those especially prone to counterfeiting such as pharmaceutical and healthcare products, high-value luxury items, alcoholic drinks and cosmetics.
