The British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF), Oxford Brookes University and The Publishers Association are delighted to announce that multitalented star of comedy, television and radio Andy Hamilton, will host the British Book Design and Production Awards 2010.

Andy, who is a regular panellist on shows such as QI and Have I Got News For You will host the glittering Gala Awards evening, seen as the “must-attend” event of the year for all those involved in the book publishing industry, and the focal point for all book and journal publishers in the UK. The dazzling ceremony will be held on Tuesday 5th October at the prestigious Lancaster London Hotel, a venue famed for its spectacular views across the centre of London.

Andy’s career began on television with The Two Ronnies, Smith and Jones and Not The Nine O’Clock News. He then went on to create, write and produce Drop The Dead Donkey which won a BAFTA, two Emmys and three Writers Guild Awards.

Amongst Andy’s many other writing credits are Underworld and Bedtime. Eleven Men Against Eleven, a one-off comedy about football, which also went on to win the Royal Television Society Award for Best Single Drama. Andy also co-wrote, directed and produced Outnumbered, BBC’s groundbreaking family sitcom starring Hugh Dennis and Claire Skinner.

On radio, he is a regular contributor to Radio 4’s News Quiz and an occasional panellist on I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue. He also wrote and performed (as Satan) Old Harry’s Game, for which he won a Sony Award. Andy is also both writer and director of Trevor’s World of Sport and in 1993 won the RTS award for Lifetime Achievement in Television.

A five-strong panel of industry experts from the areas of design, publishing and production gathered for two days at Oxford Brookes University, where they went through a tough selection process in order to reach the shortlist decision. Due to the high quality of entrants this year the judges had an extremely difficult decision on their hands to select the shortlist, which was announced last month.

With 16 categories, each full of high calibre applicants, the eighth annual British Book Design and Production awards are set to be a great display of excellence and eye-catching book design and production. The winners of each respective category will be announced by Andy on the night. The awards evening is attended by a virtual who’s who in the Publishing sector industry personnel, making it the must attend event on the publishing sector calendar. Seats and tables are in hot demand, so to be sure of not missing out on any of the evening’s glittering prize-giving, visit www.britishbookawards.org/2010/tickets.aspx to confirm your place.
