(Canada) Two B.C. pulp mills, including Nanaimo's Harmac, began winding down their operations this afternoon after insolvent forest company Pope & Talbot failed to close a $225-million purchase agreement with Asian paper giant Pindo Deli.
More than 700 workers at the two mills were still being contacted this afternoon and told they are laid off while Pope & Talbot tries to salvage its deal with Pindo Deli.
